Tanker Technician

Performs intermediate and advanced level troubleshooting, diagnostics, preventative maintenance and repairs on tankers and trucks. May performs as a Lead Mechanic at this level.


  • Operate safely and in compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures
  • Performs electrical troubleshooting
  • Performs suspension troubleshooting and repair
  • Performs part diagnostics, repair and replacement
  • Performs tank plumbing and valve troubleshooting and repairs
  • Assists with tanker inspections and entries
  • Assists with DOT annual inspections
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Certifications)

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Two to three years of tanker repair and maintenance experience
  • Cargo Tank inspection certification and experience preferred
  • Two to three years of trailer and truck equipment repair and maintenance experience
  • Technical or trade school training in the field of diesel mechanics desirable
  • Valid AK driver’s license
  • Class A CDL with HazMat endorsement desirable
  • Must own a comprehensive tool kit to perform the job


  • Competent level performance of M2 job duties, knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Basic fabrication skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of engine troubleshooting and repair
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer)
  • Advanced knowledge of Hendrickson axles and suspension
  • Advanced knowledge of Tanker overflow systems
  • Advanced knowledge of automatic breaking systems
  • Advanced knowledge of computer diagnostics
  • Advanced part diagnostics and repair experience
  • Advanced knowledge using repair manuals and access
  • Follows instructions, responds to management direction, takes responsibility for own actions, completes tasks on time or communicates alternate plans
  • Treats people with respect; keeps commitments, inspires the trust of others, works with integrity and ethically, upholds organizational values
  • Possess excellent communication skills, verbal, written, and listening skills
  • Working knowledge and application of company policies and procedures


The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. In addition to using computerized diagnostic equipment, mechanics use a variety of power and machine tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, grinding machines, and welding equipment. Hand tools, including pliers, socket and ratchets, and screwdrivers, are also commonly used. The employee is often exposed to a variety of extreme weather and temperature conditions and fluctuations, such as cold, heat, snow, wind, rain, etc.
