POSITION PROFILE

The Mechanic Apprentice is primarily responsible for providing support to a team of mechanics, giving priority to steam cleaning all vehicles and equipment that pass through the wash bay the incumbent will also perform some basic maintenance and repairs on support equipment and light duty vehicle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Operate safely and in compliance with all established HSSE policies and procedures
  • Steam clean all vehicles, parts, and equipment as directed
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards with focus on the care and custody of materials
  • Safely operate and park equipment within the yard and shop areas
  • Prioritize and complete day-to-day activities as assigned based on fluctuating customer needs
  • Assist mechanics and learn a variety of tasks as directed
  • Fill up shop equipment with diesel fuel prior to start of the workday
  • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION (Education, Experience, and Certifications)

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid AK driver’s license
  • Basic knowledge of the following areas: equipment, truck, and trailer design and functionality preferred

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. In addition to using computerized diagnostic equipment,  mechanics use a variety of power and machine tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, grinding machines, and welding equipment. Hand tools, including pliers, socket and ratchets, and screwdrivers, are also commonly used. The employee is often exposed to a variety of extreme weather and temperature conditions and fluctuations, such as cold, heat, snow, wind, rain, etc.
